I am new to this forum and look forward to participating in discussions regarding my pleasure in having an afternoon cup of tea! I purchase 4oz packets of loose tea leaves from a local purveyor here in my home town of Austin, Texas. I use a mesh tea ball to brew the tea, typically ~6 grams of tea for 12 oz of water, brewed for 4 minutes. If there are suggestions for improving my brewing approach, they would be appreciated. My question is this: one of my favorite teas is Ceylon Pekoe. I have attached a picture of the tea leaves. The consistency of the leaves is pretty uneven. Notice in the center of the picture that there are quite a few “fines”, i.e. very small powder-like pieces that are smaller than the mesh on my tea ball. This results in the fines getting out of the tea ball and floating in the cup of tea, making the drinking experience somewhat unpleasant. Is it normal for loose tea to have these fines? If yes, how does one prevent them from getting loose in the cup of tea? I have tried using a strainer to “pre-clean” the leaves when I purchase them, but this is tedious and not very successful. Any insights would be appreciated. Edit: I am trying to log into this forum on my desktop computer so I can add the picture referenced above. When I use the Username that I set up, the login returns the error “The account you are trying to link has already been upgraded or linked. Please login with your email address.” When I try my email address, I get the error “The username you entered was invalid.” So I am stuck—I cannot log back in to participate in this forum. Can an administrator explain what I am doing wrong?
